Uploading your brain
Imagine if your brain--all your thoughts, feelings, emotions, memories, and senses--could be "uploaded" into a computer. Certainly science fiction for now but we could develop this capability in your lifetime. And there have been a lot of people working on it--or at least thinking about it. Here is a fun piece in Wired on the subject.
Anyone really interested in this subject and the technical and philosophical issues surrounding it should read James L. Helperin's wonderful 1998 futuristic novel "The First Immortal." Helprin dives into the legal and ethical debates surrounding cloning, cryonics, and machine-brain interfacing. Very interesting and entertaining stuff. And if you like it, I also recommend his first book, "The Truth Machine."
